The PREZ SEZ
Looking Forward to 2009
First I would like to thank our members who stepped up to the plate and volunteered to serve the club as an officer in some capacity. Max Polk was elected VP, Tony Brooks continues as Secretary/ Editor, Richard Engel as Treasurer, Board Members include Bill Collins, Sam Hill and Pete Dionne. Our last Club President, Tony Brooks served two years and because of a lack of anyone volunteering to nominate themselves looks like you are stuck with me for this new year as well. We will make the best of it and attempt to have some fun along the way.
As we head into the new year full force lets get prepared to have some fun with cars!
I have heard about several new shows this year but, first off, the Statewide Planning Meeting is this Saturday, January 10th at the Western Sizzlin in Ridgeland. Hopefully we will be represented well at this meeting and can come back with a bag full of good news about area car shows.
One interesting announcement is the Motor Trend
International Auto Show set for January 23-25 in the newly completed
Speaking of shows, remember that our Vicksburg Red Carpet Classic is set for April 10th at Blackburn Motor Company. We will be ramping up quickly to make this years show the best yet so get involved!
We are changing our monthly business meetings to Tuesday nights at least temporarily for the next couple of months. We will discuss this change at our next meeting this coming Tuesday night (Jan 13) at 6:30 at Cracker Barrel. We will also discuss locations for the upcoming meetings and Cruise Nights. If you would like to host a meeting or want to host a work night/ meeting please let us know and we will put it on the schedule.
Hopefully the weather will cooperate so we can bring our
cars to the meeting. There are a couple of new cars in the club that you might
not have seen. Richard Engel has yet to debut his HEMI MOPAR
and if you haven’t seen Sam Hill’s 33 HemiFord you
are missing a treat. Rumor is that Max Polk is about to do a major engine
upgrade on his 69 Camaro too. Tony Brooks should be getting close on his
Mustang and I hear that Clay Lahatte is working hard
on his Cuda.
Lets get busy in making 2009 a great car year!
Roger Harris
3nd Annual
The 3rd Annual Vicksburg Cruisers Red Carpet Classic Car Show
is coming up in April 2009. There
remains a lot of work between now and then to make sure everything goes as
smoothly as possible. Our planning
committees need to get in gear and start making a draft of how things will work
out. Lets all work together as we have
in the past to make this upcoming show the best
Projects
We still have some projects within the Club that need completion. I suggest we resume our “work night” meetings and help each other get these vehicles where we can have fun with them.
Bill Collins 1962 Galaxie is still in need of upholstery; Ron Tower continues his rebuild of a 1962 Corvette; Sam Hill’s 33 Ford is now complete, but my 1966 Mustang is still in need of reassembling.
I’m sure there are others that I am not aware of. If you have a project that you would like some assistance with, whether it be a little or a lot, please let us know. We will gather around and provide all the help you need (or don’t need) and the Club will furnish the snack or meal for the occasion.
Look for pictures of vehicles under construction on the VCCC website under Club Members Projects.
Our regular second Monday meeting was held on 10 November at Sam Hill’s shop in Mound, LA. We had nine members present. The meeting coincided with sports events by some of our young folks keeping our numbers low at this meeting. But that’s okay, that’s what life is all about – family! We talked about the upcoming nomination and election of Club officers for the new year. We did not get in volunteers for Vice President or President, but I’m sure someone will step up.
Our End of the Month Cruise Night was at Goldie’s on 29 November.
The Vicksburg Christmas Parade was on Saturday – 06 December 2008. Due to many schedule conflicts and health issues, we only had one driver in the parade this year. Sam Hill was our only participant accompanied by his grandson.
Our Christmas Party was also at Goldie’s Trail Bar-B-Que this year due to conflicts. We voted for Club Officers and Board Members for 2009. Roger Harris will take the reins again for 2009 as our Prez, Max Polk graciously – with some urging from Roger – accepted the nod for VP, Richard Engel will continue as our Treasurer and I will continue for another year as Secretary / Editor. Bill Collins, Sam Hill and Pete Dionne will serve as Board of Directors for the upcoming year.
VCCC Website
Please monitor our website at www.vicksburgcruisers.com for scheduled events. I am working towards making the website our primary source for Club information. Please check it out and give me some feedback.
We have strayed from advance planning for meetings and cruise nights. We need to address this in the very near future.
Have a great day, and as Roy and Dale always said ~ “Happy Trails To You . . .”
